Technical Advisor on contaminated site clean-up

 

1999 to present Provide scientific review and analysis of documents, data and conditions for the clean-up of the ITT Rayonier Mill site in Port Angeles, Washington.  The paper mill operated for approximately 70 years and contaminated the site and the harbor with organic chemicals and heavy metals. The project includes assessment of three landfills where mill waste was deposited. The work is under a grant from the Washington Dept of Ecology to OEC.

Technical Advisor on state water quality program

 

1997-1999; renewal pending  

Provides review and analysis of many aspects of the state water program, including antidegradation, total maximum daily loads (TMDL’s), permit programs and conditions, assessing state water quality, etc. Dr. deFur worked with a group of four environmental organizations in Indiana. Work was funded by a grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

Expert witness and 
reviewer for Tooele Incinerator
July 96 - February 97
deFur reviewed the risk assessment for the chemical weapons incinerator, provided written comments, and affidavit and testimony in federal court administrative proceedings.  The issues were human health risk, ecological risk and risk assessment policy and practice, especially for dioxin.
